Two senior cabinet ministers were grilled by Uruguay’s senate this week in connection with a passport scandal involving a Uruguayan drug trafficker, Sebastián Marset. Marset has been linked to the Primer Cartel Uruguayo (PCU) and was reportedly involved in a Paraguayan criminal network that was largely broken up in Paraguay’s biggest-ever counter-narcotics operation ‘A Ultranza Py’ last February. Marset is suspected of being behind a revenge contract killing of Paraguay’s special prosecutor against organised crime, Marcelo Pecci, in May.
