In brief: Mexico’s trade deficit increases

* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released new figures which show that the country had a trade deficit of US$5.96bn in July 2022, compared to a deficit of US$4bn in the same month of 2021 and of US$3.96bn in June 2022. Exports in July 2022 totalled US$46.5bn, a year-on-year increase of 13.6%. This was made up of US$42.6bn in non-oil exports (up 11.9% year-on-year) and US$3.92bn in oil exports (up 35.9%). Imports totalled US$52.46bn, an annual increase of 16.7%, with non-oil imports up 10.8% and oil imports up 63.8%. According to Inegi, Mexico registered a trade deficit of US$18.9bn in the first seven months of 2022.
