MEXICO: Criminal groups sow disorder in Zacatecas

Residents across several municipalities in Mexico’s Zacatecas state were warned not to travel over the weekend, while schools and universities in some parts of the state opted to postpone the return to classes on 29 August, following violent incidents that saw vehicles set alight on the state’s main thoroughfares. The nature of the incidents, and the panic and disruption they caused, were reminiscent of violent acts that recently beset the states of Guanajuato, Jalisco, Chihuahua, and Baja California [WR-22-33].
