In brief: Paraguay’s inflation slows again

* Paraguay’s central bank (BCP) has published the consumer price index for August, showing a monthly inflation rate of 0.4%, down from 0.9% in August 2021. With this result, accumulated inflation for the year stood at 7.2%, well above the 3.6% recorded in the same period of 2021. Annual inflation stood at 10.5% at the end of August, lower than the annual rate of 11.1% registered in July of this year but greater than the rate of 5.6% registered in August 2021. BCP stated that inflation in August was driven by rising prices of most food products, followed by price rises recorded for services, health expenses and some durable goods. However, according to BCP, these increases were somewhat offset by a decrease in the price of fuels.
