*Mexico’s President
Andrés Manuel López Obrador has stated that his government’s proposed 2023 budget will be balanced and continue with his policy of austerity. He said the budget would not include increases in tax, electricity tariffs or fuel prices. López Obrador also stressed that priority welfare and social programmes would be funded with some programmes receiving bigger budgets, as well as stating that infrastructure projects such as his flagship Tren Maya railway and Dos Bocas oil refinery, would receive the funding needed to be completed and enter into operation (although the refinery
was inaugurated in July it is not yet finished). He said that the finance ministry (SHCP) would present the 2023 budget tomorrow (8 September).
