President Rodrigo Chaves has dismissed his communications minister, Patricia Navarro. She becomes the first minister to be shown the door since the right-of-centre Partido Progreso Social Democrático (PPSD) government took office in May. Chaves failed to provide reasons for his decision which came amid reports that Navarro was facing a labour-related complaint. It takes place as his government continues to face scrutiny over its relationship with the media which has proven thorny – tensions which emerged ahead of Chaves’ taking office following press reports of alleged campaign finance irregularities which implicated him [WR-22-10], as well as a sexual harassment scandal dating back to his stint at the World Bank.
