* Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released new figures which show that monthly inflation in August was 1.2%, bringing annual inflation to 14.1%. INE highlighted monthly price rises in food & non-alcoholic drinks (+2%), transport (+1.6%), and housing & basic services (+0.9%), with significant rises also registered in alcoholic drinks & tobacco (+1.6%), clothing & footwear (+2%) and restaurants & hotels (+1.6%). Earlier this week, Chile’s central bank (BCCh)
raised the country’s benchmark interest rate to 10.75%, its eighth steep rates hike since October 2021.
