ECUADOR: Gov’t caves in to indigenous demands on oil and mining

On 9 September, Ecuador’s government and the umbrella indigenous organisation Confederación de Nacionalidades Indígenas del Ecuador (Conaie) reached an agreement to declare a moratorium on 15 oil blocks and to temporarily suspend the granting of new mining concessions.
