*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest figures for retail trade, which show that the volume of sales in the country’s retail sector fell 0.8% in July compared to the previous month. This is the third consecutive fall this year. In value terms, there was a decline of 1.6% in the country’s retail sales. In year-on-year terms, the volume of Brazil’s retail trade shrank 5.2% in July 2022 compared with July 2021. In July, Ibge registered negative rates in seven of the eight retail categories surveyed. The main declines in sales volume were registered in the categories of: fabric, apparel & footwear (-17.1%), furniture & household appliances (-3.0%), and books, newspapers & stationery (-2.0%). Only the category of fuels & lubricants recorded an increase in sales in July (12.2%).
