President Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou is facing a backlash over his decision to issue a decree ceding to a request by the tobacco industry to loosen stringent restrictions, ostensibly to combat contraband cigarettes. The move incensed the left-wing opposition Frente Amplio (FA) coalition, which is demanding that the new decree be repealed.
