In brief: Enel sells energy distributor in Brazil

* Enel América, the Latin American subsidiary of Italian group Enel, has announced the sale of one of its energy distributors in Brazil to the Brazilian power company Equatorial Energia. Local electricity distributor Celg-D, which operates in Brazil’s Goiás state, was sold for R$1.6bn (US$304m) in a transaction that also included a R$5.7bn debt restructuring, totalling R$7.3bn. “The sale of Enel Goiás is in line with Enel Group’s current strategy in Brazil to focus the distribution business on grids located in urban areas,” the company wrote in a statement. Enel América controls energy distributors in the Brazilian states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Ceará. With the deal, its number of clients will fall from 18m to 15m, and the company will no longer be Brazil’s largest energy distributor.
