MEXICO: Hackers reveal Sedena’s power – and weakness

Mexico’s defence ministry (Sedena) suffered a major cybersecurity breach on 29 September, when hackers broke into its servers and leaked six terabytes of email data containing sensitive and confidential information to the press. The information, which is being released slowly, exposes plans to further enlarge the army’s already sizeable role within the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador while, paradoxically, highlighting a major weakness in its defence.
