MEXICO: Nearshoring focus of US economic talks

The annual High-Level Economic Dialogue (HLED) meeting between the US and Mexico took place in Mexico City (CDMX) on 12 September. First launched in 2013, the government-to-government mechanism was suspended during former US president Donald Trump’s administration (2017-2021) and relaunched in September 2021. Its aims include promoting trade and investment and strengthening regional supply chains, which were key issues addressed in the most recent meeting held between US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, along with members of his government, including Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard and Economy Minister Tatiana Clouthier.
