*Nicaragua’s central bank (BCN) has released its latest figures on foreign direct investment (FDI) which show that this totalled US$1.04bn in the first half of 2022, equivalent to 13.9% of GDP, and up 23.4% on the amount received in the same period in 2021. Of the total, US$579m represented reinvested earnings. As regards a breakdown according to sector, industry accounted for US$259.6m of the FDI in the first half of 2022, followed by energy & mining (US$223.4m), and trade & services (US$169.9m). As regards sources of FDI, the US accounted for US$289m (35.6% of the total) followed by Canada (US$129.7m), Panama (US$123.8m), Mexico (US$116.1m) and Spain (US$57.4m).
