MEXICO: Violence – a state or federal issue?

Mexico’s Interior Minister Adán Augusto López has criticised opposition governors for objecting to the army’s role in public security operations while failing to tackle insecurity. The interior minister is currently touring state congresses in an attempt to persuade legislators to approve a constitutional reform which was recently passed at federal level and would allow the army to continue assisting in public security tasks until 2028.
