*Argentina’s government led by President
Alberto Fernández has announced that China Railway International Group (CRIG), a subsidiary of China’s state-owned China Railway Group Limited (CREC), is evaluating various infrastructure, energy and technology projects in the country. The projects, which were discussed during a meeting between Fernández and CRIG president,
Bi Yanchun, include the modernisation and electrification of the Belgrano Norte trainline in Buenos Aires metropolitan area; road connections between the provinces of Chaco and Corrientes, and Santa Fe and Entre Ríos; and
“various technological projects”. In a statement, the Argentine government said the projects would be carried out within the framework of Argentina’s adhesion to China’s global infrastructure plan the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which Argentina
joined in February.
