MEXICO: Migrant border deaths grow

On 1 September, Mexican and US authorities found the bodies of nine migrants who had died while attempting to cross the Rio Grande. Heavy rains had caused the river, which runs along the Mexico-US border and is known as the Río Bravo in Mexico, to swell. According to the US meteorological service, it had risen from 90cm to over 1.5 metres in just a few days. This comes as 2022 is on track to be the deadliest year on record for migrants at the US-Mexico border.
