Human rights groups are urging that the process of appointing Guatemala’s new comptroller general (CGC), which is currently under way, should be “fair and transparent”. The appointment is drawing particular scrutiny given that the CGC, who serves a four-year term and is responsible for the safeguarding of public funds, could prove crucial to ensuring free and fair general elections in June 2023.
