In brief: Mexico’s industrial production falls in September

*Mexicos national statistics institute (Inegi) has published new data for its monthly index of industrial activity (Imai) showing that Mexico’s industrial activity was down -0.2% in September 2022 compared with August 2022. Activity decreased by -1.2% in the mining sector, was down -0.6% in utilities (electricity generation and transmission, provision of water and gas), and dropped -0.3% in manufacturing. On the other hand, activity in construction was up by 0.2%. In annual terms, industrial production rose 4.3% in September 2022 compared with September 2021. This was driven by an 8.3% increase in activity in manufacturing and a 6.7% increase in utilities. Activity in the mining and construction sectors was down -1.8% and -3.3% respectively in yearly terms.
