*Argentina’s energy ministry has announced a two-year extension to off-shore oil exploration contracts authorised to UK-headquartered multinational oil firm Tullow, Argentina’s Pluspetrol and Germany’s Wintershall in two areas in the Malvinas Oeste’ fields in Argentina’s South Atlantic territorial waters. The energy ministry cited difficulties in the “
transfer of personnel and equipment due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic”. The contracts were initially awarded in 2019 in a bidding round in which Argentina’s government awarded 18 blocks to 13 firms, who committed to invest a combined US$724m in exploration.
