Layda Sansores, of the ruling Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) party, said La Pimienta solar park would guarantee the supply of electricity in the region and positioned Campeche as a state that generates clean energy.
“We have the doors open so that productive and environmentally friendly private investments can continue to arrive,” said Sansores.
Dorothy Ngutter, the US consul in Mérida, the capital of neighbouring Yucatán state, attended the inauguration of the solar park alongside US ambassador to Mexico
Ken Salazar. According to the US consulate in Mérida, La Pimienta is the second biggest solar park in Mexico and will generate enough energy to supply 300,000 homes a year.
