A large crowd accompanied the Madres de Plaza de Mayo on 24 November to scatter the ashes of Hebe de Bonafini, the group’s leader, in the square in the hub of Buenos Aires city where she made her name protesting against the abuses of the military dictatorship. Bonafini, who died four days earlier at the age of 93, became the scourge of plenty of democratic governments after the fall of the junta in 1983, until the advent of Kirchnerismo in 2003 when she became an ardent supporter of both presidents Néstor Kirchner (2003-2007) and his wife and successor Cristina Fernández (2007-2015).
