In brief: Argentina raises threshold for income tax

*Argentina’s government has announced it will once again raise the lower limit at which workers must pay income tax. Economy Minister Sergio Massa announced that, from 1 January, the minimum salary at which income tax is paid will be Ar$404,062 (US$2,390) a month, which he said would bring tax relief to over 300,000 workers. With this latest modification, fewer than 600,000 salaried workers will pay income tax, which Massa said is in line with the government’s commitment for less than 10% of the workforce to pay the tax. This follows previous increases of the salary threshold for paying income tax, which was raised from Ar$225,000 to Ar$280,792 a month in May, and to Ar$330,000 a month in November.
