In brief: Economic activity falls slightly in Brazil

* Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released its latest economic activity index (IBC-Br) showing that economic activity fell by 0.05% in October compared to the previous month. In year-on-year terms, economic activity was up 3.68%. The increase wipes out the modest 0.05% monthly rise in economic activity in September, which followed a 1.13% decline in August. The IBC-Br was created to anticipate Brazil’s official GDP figures, which are calculated by the national statistics institute (Ibge).
