In brief: Minimum wage increased in Colombia

* Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro has announced a 16% increase to the minimum wage, which will rise to Col$1.16m (US$242) per month. Petro said that the increase was agreed following meetings between the government, business leaders and unions, and predicted that it would “restore purchasing power and income levels”, becoming “a driver of economic growth”. The wage rise exceeds inflation, which stood at an annual rate of 12.53% in November.
