In brief: Remittances to Honduras surge

*Honduras’s central bank (BCH) has released new figures which show that remittances to Honduras totalled US$7.9bn in the first 11 months of 2022, up from US$6.67bn registered over the same period in 2021. Remittances to Honduras totalled US$7.2bn in 2021 according to a November 2022 World Bank (WB) report, ‘Migration and Development Brief 37’, which forecasts that this will rise to US$8.3bn in 2022, representing 27.1% of Honduras’s GDP. The same WB report forecasts that remittances to Guatemala will total US$18.1bn in 2022, (19.8% of GDP), up from US$15.4bn in 2021, and that remittances to El Salvador will total US$7.6bn in 2022 (23.8% of GDP), up from US$7.5bn in 2021.
