MEXICO: The three amigos reunite

Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador met US President Joe Biden and Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Mexico City (CDMX) on 10 January for the tenth annual North American Leaders’ Summit (NALS), also dubbed the ‘three amigos’ summit. The meeting supposedly provided an overview of the issues facing relations between the three countries this year. However, the main ongoing point of contention –López Obrador’s nationalist energy policies – was not addressed until after Biden had returned to the US.
