In brief: New director approved for Brazil’s Petrobras

* The administrative board of Brazil’s state-controlled oil company Petrobras has approved President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s pick to head the company. Jean Paul Prates, the new Petrobras CEO, was unanimously approved by the board, although Petrobras shares fell upon the announcement of his confirmation. A senator for the left-wing Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) from 2019 until his appointment, Prates has held various positions in the energy sector including a stint as energy secretary for the state of Rio Grande do Norte from 2008-2010.
