Jean Paul Prates, the new Petrobras CEO, was unanimously approved by the board, although Petrobras shares fell upon the announcement of his confirmation. A senator for the left-wing Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) from 2019 until his appointment, Prates has held various positions in the energy sector including a stint as energy secretary for the state of Rio Grande do Norte from 2008-2010.
