In brief: Cuba and Iran boost ties

* The foreign ministries of Cuba and Iran have hailed efforts to boost economic and trade ties following a meeting by an Iranian delegation to Cuba headed up by Iran’s foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. According to Cuba’s foreign ministry, Amir-Abdollahian met top Cuban officials including Cuba’s foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez, and minister for foreign trade and investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, as well as deputy prime minister Ricardo Cabrisas who last year headed up a Cuban delegation to Iran for an intergovernmental meeting where agreements were signed on pharmaceutical products, agriculture, customs, the food industry, and vaccine production. Details regarding new agreements have yet to be made public. Amir-Abdollahian’s trip to Cuba followed visits to Venezuela and Nicaragua as part of the same tour.
