*Mexican airline Aeromar has announced
“the definitive end” of operations after 35 years of services in Mexico, the US and Cuba. In a statement, the airline cited
“a series of financial problems” and
“the difficulty of reaching viable agreements to ensure operations in the long-term”. Aeromar said it had made
“profound financial adjustments” to improve its situation, but an adverse environment, made worse by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, meant such measures were not sufficient. Launched in 1987, Aeromar ran flights to 21 destinations across Mexico including Mexico City (CDMX), Cancún, Monterrey and Acapulco, as well as three international flights to Havana, Cuba and Laredo and McAllen, both in the US state of Texas. The airline employed almost 700 people. Aeromar said it would contact those who currently hold tickets with the airline once it had received information from the relevant authorities concerning alternatives for passengers.
