In brief: Ecuadorean business lobby estimates impact of FTAs

* Ecuador’s federation of exporters (Fedexpor) has estimated that free trade agreements (FTAs) with China and Costa Rica, which have both been agreed but are pending ratification by the national assembly and the constitutional court, would boost Ecuadorean exports by US$944m per year. According to Fedexpor’s calculations, the FTA with China would boost exports by US$901m, while the FTA with Costa Rica would raise exports by US$43m. Fedexpor also claimed that an eventual FTA with South Korea, which is currently under negotiation, would bring in an additional US$367m per year from exports.
