IMMIGRATION: Calderón objects to demonisation of migrants

Bilateral relations between Mexico and the US are likely to become stickier, at least until after the 2008 presidential and congressional elections in the US. President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa signalled his unhappiness with the increasingly strident anti-immigration rhetoric from US presidential candidates with an outspoken address to the Instituto de Mexicanos en el Exterior last month. Both Democrats and Republicans are pandering to anti-immigrant lobbies in the US.
