A delegation of six senators, headed by the Democrat majority leader in the Senate, Harry Reid (D, Nevada) is due on 28 November to meet Mexican politicians and officials to discuss the Iniciativa Mérida. This is the US plan to offer US$500m a year in military aid to Mexico for the next three years. The money is to be used to bolster the Mexican government in its battle with drug gangs.
