In brief: Remittances to Nicaragua surge year-on-year
* Nicaragua’s central bank (BCN) has released new figures which show that remittances to the country totalled US$317m in January 2023. This is down from US$337m in December 2022 but up 62.8% on January 2022. According to the same figures, 80.1% of total remittances sent to Nicaragua in January 2023 came from the US (US$254m) while 8.1% of the total were from Costa Rica (US$25.7m) and 7% from Spain (US$22.2m).
