In brief: Chile’s trade surplus down

*Chile’s central bank (BCCh) has released new figures which show that Chile’s exports in February totalled US$8.3bn while imports totalled US$6.3bn, leaving a trade surplus of US$2.0bn. This is down from U$2.6bn in January when exports totalled US$8.9bn and imports totalled US$6.3bn. The trade surplus coincides with a weak performance of copper exports - of which Chile is the leading global exporter – which totalled US$3.4bn in February. While up from US$3.0bn in January 2023 this is still down from US$4.3bn in December 2022.
