BOLIVIA: On the brink of a currency crisis?

Bolivia’s central bank has spent the last two weeks attempting to quell concerns over a US dollar shortage in the country, and is now directly selling dollars to citizens anxious that a currency devaluation could be in the pipeline. Whilst the government has insisted that it will defend the boliviano’s fixed exchange rate against the US dollar, debt markets are clearly rattled, with dollar bonds due in 2028 and 2030 falling to record lows.
