MEXICO: Mass turnout for International Women’s Day marches

Hundreds of thousands of women took to the streets across Mexico once again to celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March. Protests have grown in size in recent years as feminists and women’s rights advocates – estranged allies of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador – grow increasingly disillusioned with the lack of progress for women under his government. Indeed, many of the main demands, particularly around reducing femicide and gender violence, remain unchanged from previous years.
