Panama: Torrijos likely to win with a considerable lead over Endara

Surmounting a last-minute smear campaign by the ruling party, PRD candidate Martí­n Torrijos looks well-placed to win the presidential elections taking place on 2 May. Torrijos, running for the Patria Nueva alliance (his own leftist Partido Revolucionario Democrático plus the centrist Partido Popular), leads the field with 45% of voter preferences, according to a CID-Gallup poll published on 22 April.
