MEXICO: Human rights criticisms cause a stir

A US State Department report on human rights in Mexico has served as yet another point of contention between the governments of the two countries. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador questioned the truthfulness of the report, which detailed “significant human rights issues”. However, some of the claims in the report, especially those surrounding excessive use of force by the security forces, have a particular resonance given recent events in Mexico.
