In brief: Brazil registers record oil and natural gas production in February

* Brazil’s Agência Nacional do Petróleo, Gás Natural, e Biocombustíveis (ANP), the federal oil and gas regulator, has released the oil and natural gas production figures for the month of February, which showed a record monthly total production of 4.18m barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd). Oil production in February totalled 3.26m barrels per day (bpd), which was down by 0.4% compared with January but up 11.8% year-on-year. Natural gas production totalled 146.5m cubic metres per day, up 2.3% on January and up 10% year-on-year. The rise in production was mainly driven by the extraction of 3.26m bpd of pre-salt oil in February, which made up 78.1% of total production. Pre-salt oil production was up by 3.2% from the previous month and by 15% year-on-year.
