ARGENTINA: Massa’s battle to avoid default and devaluation

Even by Argentine standards, the situation of the country’s economy is alarming. Inflation topped 100%, GDP is projected to contract by 3% this year, and international reserves are critically low. Poverty levels are again approaching near-record highs of around 40%, while a devastating drought is undermining the country’s all-important farm exports.
