MEXICO: Executive and judiciary clash over electoral reform

Mexico’s supreme court (SCJN) has not shied away from striking down President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s key reforms in recent weeks [WR-23-16]. Most recently, the court invalidated the first part of the president’s ‘Plan B’ electoral reform – one of his most significant reform initiatives. The move prompted a fierce response from the ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) and celebrations from the opposition.
