BOLIVIA: Environment minister arrested

Bolivia’s environment minister Juan Santos Cruz had been defying political gravity for two months, battling allegations of corruption from the media, government agencies, and rival factions within the ruling left-wing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS). Santos was arrested on 16 May, further weakening President Luis Arce’s claims to be eradicating the corruption which he says was embedded in the administration of his predecessor, the now-imprisoned Jeanine Áñez (2019-2020).
