MEXICO: More duties for the military

A controversial senate speed session saw senators from the ruling Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) and allied parties pass around 20 reforms within a few hours on the night of 28 April and early hours of 29 April. Among the most contentious of these hastily passed reforms were those that inflated the role of the armed forces in typically civilian tasks, following a path that has been well trodden during the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador [SSR-21-11].
