* The Dominican Republic’s tourism minister, David Collado, has announced that 757,949 tourists visited the country in May, of whom 621,575 arrived by air. He said that the May figure for tourists who arrived via air was up 11% on May 2022 and 18% on May 2019, the year before the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic struck. He also said that 136,374 tourists arrived by cruise ship in May, up from 57,385 in the same month in 2022, and 55,694 in May 2019. Collado also said that in the first five months of 2023, the Dominican Republic received a total of 4.5m tourists via air and cruise ship which he said was unprecedented.
