In brief: International tourism up in Mexico

* Mexico’s tourism ministry (Sectur) has reported that 9.56m international tourists visited Mexico by air in the first five months of 2023, representing a year-on-year increase of 7.2% and an increase of 6.8% on the same period of 2019, before the onset of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. According to Sectur, the greatest number of tourists arrived from the US (5.28m), Canada (1.31m) and Colombia (299,134). In the first five months of 2023, 4.5m international tourists arrived to Cancún airport, in Quintana Roo state, 1.63m to Mexico City (CDMX)’s Benito Juárez International Airport (AICM), and 1.05m to Los Cabos airport, Baja California state.
