* Brazil’s Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, who also serves as the minister for industry & commerce, has signed a resolution to create an export processing zone in Aracruz, a coastal municipality north of Vitória, capital of Espírito Santo state. The resolution was signed at an event in Vitória, the port of which has exported its first ever shipment of ‘green lithium’. At the event, Alckmin described the shipment as “triple zero green lithium”, stating that the production of the lithium involved zero carbon emissions, zero waste, and zero harmful chemicals. The lithium was extracted by the Canada-based company Sigma Lithium from mining facilities in the Vale do Jequitinhonha, in neighbouring Minas Gerais state. The governor of Espírito Santo, Renato Casagrande, welcomed the creation of the export processing zone and the lithium exports as boosts for his state’s green industrial potential.
