* Ecuador’s government has signed an agreement with the European Union (EU) which aims to mobilise up to €1bn (US$1.05bn) in finance for green initiatives in Ecuador. According to Charles-Michel Geurts, the EU’s ambassador in Ecuador, the agreement, titled Un Pacto Verde para Ecuador (A Green Deal for Ecuador), “sets in motion a series of projects and financial instruments which will support the country in achieving the ecological transition, mitigating climate change, and combatting chronic childhood malnutrition”. The EU’s office in Ecuador said on social media that the agreement “will mobilise around €1bn from non-reimbursable funds, funds from financial guarantees, the mobilisation of climate finance, and the provision of concessional funds from European Union member states”.
