In brief: Mexico hails job creation

* Mexico’s national social security institute (IMSS) has released a new report showing it had registered 22.13m jobs as of 30 September 2023 – the first time the 22m threshold had been crossed. According to the IMSS, 86.1% of these jobs were permanent and 13.9% temporary. In September, 132,558 jobs were created, an increase of 0.6% on the previous month. So far this year, 756,537 jobs have been created which IMSS states is 208,576 more than the average increase in the last ten years for the same period. Over the last 12 months, 720,075 jobs were created, equivalent to an annual growth rate of 3.4%. The economic sectors with the highest annual job growth percentages are construction (9.4%), transportation and communications (5.0%), and commerce (4.1%).
